Remarkably, over 14 years have passed since the first major utility scale wind farms commenced operation in Michigan. Those include Michigan Wind 1 and Harvest Wind 1 in Huron County. Due to increases in efficiency, lower costs, new federal tax incentives and recent state legislation, the time has come to repower those wind energy systems built between 2008 and 2014. Consequently, for local townships and counties, as well as local landowners with wind farm leases, the time has also come to prepare for this wave of activity.
