Since the Michigan Clean and Renewable Energy Act became effective in 2008, more than 30 commercial wind parks throughout the state have been built or are under construction or in the planning stages. Wind energy systems projects have reached Mason, Hillsdale, Gratiot, Isabella, Huron, Tuscola, and Sanilac counties and the Upper Peninsula. As indicated in their most recent integrated resource plans, DTE Energy and Consumers Energy are all in on renewables, phasing out coal plants and focusing on wind and solar projects for the foreseeable future.
