Since 2017, at least 32 bills have been introduced in the Michigan Legislature that grapple with short-term rentals. The evolving landscape of short-term rental law has been a hot topic in the legislature, as well as the courts, with the rise in popularity of websites such as Airbnb and VRBO. At the end of 2021, the Michigan Court of Appeals issued a new opinion that sheds light on how Michigan courts may enforce residential use restrictions in the context of short-term rentals.
