After battening down the hatches for a few years, real estate activity continues to be buoyed by the improved Michigan economy.  Michael A. Luberto of Chirco Title Agency, Inc. in St. Clair Shores and J. Scott Timmer of Miller Johnson in Grand Rapids have planned a first rate, three-day conference for real estate attorneys looking to get shipshape from stem to stern, with programs on financing alternatives, tax-deferred exchanges, oil, gas and mineral rights, new developments in the law, and a multitude of interesting roundtable topics.

This year’s Summer Conference will again provide newer practitioners with the opportunity to sound out Michigan’s most knowledgeable attorneys on a broad variety of subjects.  The program includes workshops on the fundamentals of title insurance and the essentials of real estate remedies.  These sessions, along with a presentation of the current state of the law and a variety of roundtable discussions, will provide a unique training experience for newer practitioners looking to come through with flying colors.

Thursday, the conference will kick off with a masterful panel of experts focusing on financing alternatives to traditional bank financing, including MSHDA programs, other government development incentives, seller financing and raising money from private investors.  Friday’s workshops include sessions on (1) advanced tax-deferred exchanges, (2) oil, gas and mineral rights, (3) uncapping consequences of real estate transfers, and (4) fundamentals of title insurance and real estate remedies - a workshop geared to newer practitioners.  A lively presentation of recent court opinions and legislation will be supplemented by numerous interactive roundtable discussions on issues involving commercial leases, macroeconomic real estate trends, and the role of the Land Bank, broker/listing agreements, and changes in HUD regulations, among others.

John U. Bacon, acclaimed bestselling author and radio and TV commentator, will provide an inspiring conclusion to the program as our guest speaker on Saturday morning.  And you won’t want to miss the golf scramble, Section dinner and other special events to get to meet your colleagues from all parts of the Great Lakes State.  So weigh anchor for Mackinac Island’s historic Grand Hotel for a memorable conference!
