We are pleased to announce the creation of a law student scholarship program. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to law students who demonstrate a commitment to the furtherance of LGBTQ+ justice, the SBM LGBTQ+ Law Section will accept applications for an annual scholarship award. The award may be used for LGBTQ+ related education or advocacy.

Example: National LGBT Bar Lavender Law conference, The Task Force’s Creating Change Conference, and LGBTQ+ Law seminar or conference

     

Award

An applicant may receive an award of up to $1,000, depending on committee budget and number of applicants.

Applicant Requirements

  1. Enrolled as a 2nd or 3rd year law student (applicant should apply prior to graduation but proceeds may be used within 3 months of graduation);
  2. Attend (a) a law school in Michigan, or (b) if attending an out-of-state law school, must demonstrate active engagement in advocacy, education, or activism work in Michigan;
  3. Identify as a person of LGBTQ+ identity or an ally;
  4. Maintain a 2.5 GPA, or provide a written explanation (less than 400 words) as to why applicant should still be considered.
