The Criminal Law Section's 8th Spring Conference will be held on June 3–4, 2016, with conference sessions offered all day on Friday and a half day on Saturday. This popular biennial event will again be held at the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth.

This year's conference will address truth, deception, and credibility. Susan Constantine will present a day-long interactive workshop on "Evaluating Truthfulness" on Friday. On Saturday morning, Larry Dalman will explain cell phone and computer forensics, including accessing and recovering information from social media. Immediately thereafter, Detective Christopher Fitzpatrick will help us understand polygraph examinations. John Collins will discuss his new forensic workshops.

The Bavarian Inn Lodge is offering special room rates for attendees under group code 1294WD. Room rates per night are $129.00 for a standard room and $179.00 for a suite (single, double, triple, and quad occupancy per room). There is an additional $15 charge per person for a 5th or 6th person in the same room. Rollaway bed charges are $15 per night and cribs are $5 per night.

In an effort to serve our members and the Bar, the CLS intends to sponsor numerous attendees for the Spring Conference. Scholarships will cover one or two night's lodging at the Bavarian Inn (Thursday or Friday night), all materials, and lunch on Friday. Applicants must be members of the Criminal Law Section and will be expected to pay their own registration fee, but both requirements can be met after the scholarship is awarded (but before the conference). The deadline for applications is May 13, 2016. Applicants will be notified of their application's status as quickly as possible. A condition of the scholarship will be the applicant's guaranteed attendance and reimbursement to the Section for incurred expenses if the applicant does not attend.

To apply, submit a one page letter outlining your reasons for wanting to attend this particular conference, how the conference material might benefit your practice or career, and approximately how long you've been in practice or licensed. Law students nearing graduation are also eligible. Submit your letter to Opolla Brown in the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, obrown@waynecounty.com, as soon as possible.
