Tens of thousands of Michigan residents have had their licenses revoked. According to MADD, there were 26,845 drunk driving arrests in Michigan last year. Michigan is no place to live if you can't drive. Expand your practice and increase your revenue. Learn what has to be done to defend a client charged with drunk driving and what you must do to restore driving privileges for your clients convicted of driving under the influence.

Speakers

Patrick T. Barone is the principal and founding member of the Barone Defense Firm, headquartered in Birmingham, with offices also in Grand Rapids. He is the author of two books on DUI defense including the well-respected two-volume treatise Defending Drinking Drivers and Michigan DUI Law: A Citizen's Guide. He also authored several chapters in West/Aspatore books Inside the Minds series on various aspects of DUI discovery and trial practice. Mr. Barone is an adjunct professor at Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School where he teaches drunk driving law and practice.

Daniel Larin is a DUI criminal defense lawyer whose practice is limited almost exclusively to the defense of those arrested for drunk driving, those accused of driving under the influence of drugs, and other serious traffic crimes. Additionally, he works with people in need of a driver's license restoration. He appears in courts throughout the state and has represented clients in hundreds of drunk driving cases ranging from first offenders to death and serious injury cases.

He is also the author and editor of Michigan Drunk Driving Law & Practice, published by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, which is the main reference book for Michigan judges and attorneys looking to understand the complexities of the Michigan drunk driving laws.

Colleen Tulloch-Brown is the administrative law manager of the Administrative Hearings Section, Legal Services Administration with the Department of State. The section provides annual oversight to nearly 12,000 license appeal hearings, and roughly 1,700 circuit court appeals. The section also provides oversight to the ignition interlock program. Colleen was appointed supervisor of the section's ten attorney hearing officers and support staff in October 2010.

Brian Longman is a hearing officer with the Michigan Secretary of State where he conducts over 1,200 license appeal hearings per year. Prior to coming to the Administrative Hearings Section of the Secretary of State's office, Mr. Longman worked at Langton and Associates focusing on criminal defense, workers' compensation, and auto negligence matters. He has also worked as a police officer and detective for the city of Utica. Mr. Longman has a unique background of experience for his role as a hearing officer in that he has experienced appeals from different perspectives as both a police officer and defense attorney.
