The Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section of the State Bar of Michigan provides education, information and analysis about issues of concern through meetings, seminars, this site, public service programs, and publication of a newsletter. Membership in the Section is open to qualified legal assistants and to all members of the State Bar of Michigan.

Meet & Greet and Cybertech Presentation at Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids

On Friday, September 28 the Annual Meeting will include a Section Business Meeting followed by education presentations on information security/cyber awareness by Jeffrey Muth & Jason Crow of Miller Johnson.

Council Nominations

The Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section is accepting nominations for the following Council positions. Elections will take place at the Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids on September 28, 2018. You need not be present to be elected.

  • Chair-Elect—three-year term
  • Secretary—two-year term
  • Three Council members—two-year term

Being active in the section is a brilliant opportunity to build leadership and networking skills. Members meet in person or on conference calls six times per year to conduct the business of the section and to work on strategies for carrying out the mission of promoting the profession and providing education to members.

​The Lawyer-Paralegal Team: Effective Workflow to Maximize Efficiency Seminar sponsored by ICLE and co-sponsored by the Paralegal/ Legal Assistant Section hosted at St. John's Conference Center on May 3, 2018 was a successful event with a total of 67 attendees either in person or through the webcast.  Section Council Members Teresa Duddles (Chair), Renee Jent (Secretary), Linda Jevahirian and Denise Gau (Council Members) were in attendance. 

It was a very interesting seminar, with the Attorney/Paralegal teams explaining how they worked together in different aspects of the legal world (Litigation, Bankruptcy and Collections, Probate and Estate, Real Estate) with specific examples in each as to case flow, organization of documents, ways to search in documents, calendaring, etc.  It was great to see the attorneys clearly pointing out how hard their paralegals work and how valuable and important they are to the firm.  Thank you ICLE for the successful partnership.
