Mission


The State Bar of Michigan Paralegal Section promotes the paralegal profession by (1) continuing to educate its members in legal practice areas, professional ethics, third-party services and technology; (2) collaborating with other professionals within the State Bar of Michigan and the legal community at large; (3) focusing on increasing membership and participation within the Paralegal Section through education, social and networking events, scholarships and awards; (4) connecting with paralegal students within the State of Michigan; and (5) supporting and participating in charitable works and community service projects.

Social Event

Join us for the 2020 Parallel Social Event on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. This event will provide you with an opportunity to enjoy a relaxed evening of casual conversation with the SBM Paralegal Section council members and other paralegals in the Detroit and Lansing areas by using video and audio capabilities. Pizza, salad and beverages will be provided.  To help us with ordering the right amount of food for the events, please RSVP by February 3, 2020 indicating which location you will be attending:

It is our goal this year to assist Sara’s House/Place, a 501(c)(3) charity, with donations for their annual Baby Shower, and we would appreciate any donations, if you are willing.  The Sara’s House wish list includes (1) Baby needs: diapers, wipes, bottles, blankets, pacifiers, baby outfits, onesies, baby monitors, baby powder, baby oil, baby lotion, baby wash towels, brushes and combs, burping cloths, books, car seats, and umbrella strollers; and (2) Mother’s needs: breast pads, Kotex/Always pads, bath and body shower gels, lotions, gift cards, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, facial soap and towels.  Please bring your donation to the event. 

SBM Paralegal Section members and non-members are welcome to attend this Parallel Social Event! We look forward to seeing you there!!


Volunteer Opportunity
Attorney and paralegal volunteers are needed to assist Wayne County residents in jeopardy of property tax foreclosure in 2020.   

On-site training and training materials will be provided.  Pro bono attorneys are only expected to provide advice on that day and LAD staff will follow up with further assistance.  Paralegals will assist with client intake applications, gather client facts, obtain relevant documents on site and make copies of client documents.  Staff will always be on site to assist you.  We welcome ½ day, full day or any other time commitment that you may be willing to offer.

When:  January 8, 9, 10 and January 14, 15, 16, 2020
Two Sessions each day:  9:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. -4:00 p.m.
Where:  International Center Building, 400 Monroe St., 8th Floor in downtown Detroit.
