4:30–6:00 p.m. Seminar

SpringBoard features a series of roundtable discussions followed by an evening of networking and complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Due the success of last year’s event, the seminar this year will again focus on the role of in-house counsel. Three 30-minute roundtable sessions will allow participants to engage prominent in-house attorneys in a discussion on these salient topics:

  • Managing litigation on multiple fronts—A company or organization faces multiple lawsuits on the same or similar issues in different jurisdictions. At times, the same plaintiffs’ counsel is filing the cases, albeit with different plaintiffs. The panelists will discuss key strategies and insights on how in-house counsel manages serial litigation.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions during the life cycle of an employment claim—Negotiations are an art, and timing is critical. The panelists in this session will discuss negotiation strategies at all phases of an employment claim—pre-litigation, at the administrative charge level, and in litigation—and will give insight on how, when, and with whom to effectively have those discussions.
  • Resolving tough cases through mediation—Mediating a complex case requires in-house counsel to delicately balance the opportunities and risks involved and carefully consider the key issues and strategic decisions in the case. The panelists, which will include both in-house counsel and mediators, will discuss the various challenges of complex mediation and strategies for navigating the resulting twists and turns.

Featured speakers include: Lori Adamcheski (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan), Gary Francis (Flagstar Bank), Gloria Hage (University of Michigan), Jennifer Henderson (Guardian Security Services), Thomas Kent (University of Michigan), Allyson Miller (JACK Entertainment), Joseph Muzingo (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan), Patricia Nemeth (Mediator), Sheldon Stark (Mediator), Kelsey Switzer (DTE Energy), Jon Tappan (Towne Mortgage Company), and more!
