The RPLS Section Annual Council Meeting
is Friday, July 20, 2018 at 9:45–9:55 a.m. There is no charge to attend this council meeting. Please contact Section Administrator Karen Schwartz if you would like to attend this meeting.

With the rapid changes in technology, communications, and business models, Michigan real estate transactions are changing as well. Co-Chairs C. Lynn Sagar of First American Title Insurance Co. in Kalamazoo and Brian P. Foley of Dickinson Wright in Troy invite all real estate practitioners to meet their colleagues at Crystal Mountain to explore new transactional strategies and participate in discussions on current legal issues that impact real property.

Thursday, the conference will begin with an expert panel discussion focusing the adaptive reuse of retail space. Thursday’s and Friday’s workshops will address electronic closings, bankruptcy concerns, affordable housing, tax issues and brownfield development. There will be an update on recent Michigan legislation and court opinions. The program will also include interactive roundtable discussions on a variety of topics such as the new ALTA commitment, construction loan documentation, solar projects, water rights, fair housing, and pro bono opportunities.

No summer conference would be complete without a full array of recreational and social activities, including a welcoming cocktail reception on Wednesday evening. A golf scramble is set for Thursday afternoon, followed by a cocktail reception and the Section’s traditional Section dinner. The evening will end with family entertainment – a chance to get up close and personal with exotic animals from Exotic Zoo. The Saturday morning session will conclude with a special presentation by Geoffrey Kasselman of Newmark Knight Frank who will present “The Exponential Future of Everything.”

So plan your ascent and join the Real Property Law Section for three days of fun and learning in northern Michigan this July.
