The Shonkwiler Sentinel is named in memory of James “Jim” Shonkwiler, a founding member of the Criminal Law Section, who passed away on February 24, 2015.
Jim was always an active member of the State Bar of Michigan. For more than three decades, he faithfully edited this newsletter and also coordinated all of the conferences for the Criminal Law Section. In addition, Jim served on the Standing Committee for SBM Character and Fitness, and helped train new members. In retirement, he remained active in the effort to reform our indigent criminal defense system.
