Are You Ready for a Mobile-Friendly 2019?

By Roberta Gubbins posted 12-21-2018 02:38 PM

“It says here that 63 % of all internet traffic comes from smart phones and tablets, and that number is growing,” Linda Lawyer said to partner and brother, Lance.

“That’s the reason we had our web designer make sure our website and blog are mobile friendly,” said Lance. “Our digital sites load quickly. Consumers are impatient—they will leave after three seconds—and our pages fit the smaller screen so readers don’t have to pinch or zoom in order to read the content.”

L & L Law is ready for mobile consumers. Are you?

Test your website for mobility.
Ever-efficient Google has created a site where you can enter your web address to test its mobile functionality. Find Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test, enter your web address, and you will quickly know the results. Check landing pages and forms for ease of use. If your site fails the test, contact your web developer or host to find out how to make it mobile friendly.

What is a mobile-friendly design?
A mobile-friendly website is designed to work the same across all devices. It is clear and easy to read whether it’s being viewed on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. If your site is like most law firm websites with few navigation drop-down menus and no animation, it may pass the test.

The key features of a mobile-friendly website include:

  • Static content that doesn’t change
  • Simplified navigation scrolling in one direction
  • Big, finger-friendly navigation buttons
  • Images that display cleanly
  • A site that doesn’t rely on a particular operating system to work properly

What about responsive design?
A responsive website changes based on a consumer’s needs and the device they’re using. With responsive design, for example, text and images change from a three-column layout on a desktop to a two-column presentation on a tablet to a single column on a smartphone. Unnecessary images are hidden so they don’t compete with more important information on the smaller display.

The key features of a responsive website are:

  • Content changes
  • Abbreviated navigation
  • Improved images

A mobile-friendly website providing quick and easy access to your digital world helps your firm attract new clients and keep your current clients. Check your website’s performance on several different types of smartphones and mobile devices to be sure every visitor has a good experience.
