This half-day, complimentary educational session is designed for franchisors, franchisees, franchise and employment lawyers, and law and business students and professors interested in franchise and employment law.
Featuring special guest speakers:
Kay Marie Ainsley, Managing Director, Michael H. Seid & Associates, LLC, a domestic and international franchise advisory firm. Ms. Ainsley has over 20 years of experience in franchising as director of franchise development for major franchise systems, and as an advisor to companies within the retail, restaurant, services, manufacturing, and business-to-business industries. She will address how to respond to foreign inquiries, demystify the creation of international franchise systems, and issues to consider when negotiating with a foreign entity.
Dean Heyl, Vice President, State Government Relations, Public Policy, and Tax, International Franchise Association. Mr. Heyl will address recent movements by various cities and states to increase the minimum wage of employees in the franchise industry, as well as efforts by the NLRB to find a “joint employer” relationship in the franchise industry among franchisors and franchisees.
A panel discussion will be held regarding the minimum wage and joint employer issues. The panel, moderated by Brian Witus (Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, PC), will include Ronald Sollish (Maddin Hauser Roth & Heller, PC), James Parks (Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, PC) and Robert Grabowski (Dortch Enterprises, LLC).
